You've got the date, the time, and the location all set for your family session and now to tackle the fun task of what to wear...that could be exciting or dreadful! But don't worry! I've got a few tips to keep in mind and help you through he process.
First, always be yourself! My sessions are laid back and almost always outdoors, so pick something that goes with the feel we are looking to get from your session.
Here are some tips for all session...Keep reading for specific ideas if you're having a beach session:
Long gone are the days of everyone matching! Don't be afraid of patterns or colors that are not exactly the same. Since Mom is usually the "photographer" of the family (meaning she's usually the one behind the camera/phone documenting the family), her outfit should be the first one chosen, then pull from colors that complement her outfit. Select something you are going to feel good in and make sure you can move around.
Texture + Patterns
Don't be afraid to add textures and patterns! Depending on the temperature outside, add a scarf or light jacket to give a little dimension to your images. You can always add or remove items, so bring them along and we can change things throughout your session.
One thing you want to avoid is bright bold colors, logos, graphics, or characters. They can distract from your images.
You will be moving during the session. I may have you stand, sit, run, jump, or lay down, so make sure you a wearing something that you'll be comfortable getting up and down in. We'll be walking around to photograph you with different backdrops. Also, shoes matter! First, select shoes that you'll be okay with moving around in, but ones that still coordinate with your outfit.
-Ladies, a nice flowy skirt or dress can look amazing in the breeze, however you don't want it to get out of control and be blowing all over on you! So choose something that will be long enough or a type of material that won't fly away.
-Guys, "Florida Casual" is always great! Shorts and a button down collard shirt fits in perfectly. Just be cautious of busy prints like Hawaiian shirts. Choose something with a light material that will help keep you cool on a hot day.
-Shoes; sandals work the best for beach sessions! You may want to kick them off in the sand and should avoid something that will fill up with sand.
Just remember that you want your images to be timeless. We want to create art that you will print and hang on your walls or in photo albums. Please do not hesitate to ask for suggestions or any help in choosing what to wear!
